Recent Sculpture
"Peter Shelton: Recent Sculpture," June 5 - July 12, 2003, Berggruen Gallery, San Francisco, CA
The sculptures in this show raise the issue of inside versus outside, in terms of an object (the human body, for example) and its space, as well as the more psychological question of subjective versus objective. Many of these pieces take anthropomorphic shapes and have an organic quality to them. They are significant in their physicality and the way in which they look like interiors or exteriors; but they also have a generality, as though they could be arbitrary structures in the universe.
